As promised, if our beloved Simpson patriarch wasn't a toon.

This one was a bit more difficult in that i wanted the light to come in mainly from one side with a bit of back light. So all my reference had to be lit from one side. For textures i needed but didn't have this lighting situation, i had to darken or light a bit to give the same effect.
For clarification, these aren't studies of what Homer would look like if he was a real person, its just what a cartoon like Homer would look like if he kept his toon proportions but had realistic texturing and lighting. I find this slightly less disturbing than the Mario one. :) Some might feel he looks too old, keep in mind he was in his 30's 20 years ago when the show first started. ;)
I saved my texture reference photos this time and i'll post those up in the next couple days for those who are interested.

I like how you capture the toonish look of homer with the striking human aspect, homer personally would scare the hell outta me if i saw him walking down the street, but how about trying something crazy, like could you put a realistic Sonic the hedgehog or Megaman..? Those would be to crazy characters.

Just for the fun of it, I took the liberty to make some touches to your great Homer picture.
As far as I remember, I changed pupil size, nose width and general shape, centering of the dent under the nose, changed size, color and position of the ear to match the jawline, removed 'wet' wrinkles in the eyelids, removed skin marks in the jaw, added some shadows in the eyes, darkened the beard shade, added the left cheek for the sake of geometrical correctness, made some touches to the eyebrows and forehead, and more I can't remember.
Hope you like what I did to it.

Can't believe that it's JUST copy-and-pasting. I thought it was a 3D model with photo realistic textures of human skin.
As for your next portrait, it should be a character with universal appeal. Homer Simpson and Super Mario are great choices. Since I'm not a gamer, I'm not that familiar with the suggestions posted here, but I DO know Super Mario. I'm not that familiar with the Futurama characters, but I DO know Homer Simpson. This is what I mean by universal appeal. Popeye would be a good choice. I LOVE Jessica Rabbit, but I don't think she would be that much of a challenge, although she does have exaggerated bust and hips; might be interesting to do a full body rendering.
The Uncanny Valley
There is a psychological reason why everyone gets so creeped out from these renderings. It's called The Uncanny Valley. Basically, it's a theory that the more 'human' something looks, the better we like it, until it becomes TOO real and then it starts to look creepy.
