Here is a quick blend between the original image i used as my outline (click on the image to see the animated version). I noticed some comments wondering why i made the pupils so small and slightly off, it really was just because i was trying to stick to the original proportions of the cartoon so much. All Simpson's characters do have somewhat of a lazy-eye but its not as noticable when they are 2D.

On another note, does anyone have any recommendations for good free screen capture tools that will allow me to record what's going on Photoshop into a video? I thought it might be helpful to show the whole process next time I do one of these.

Also here are some of the texture sources I used for Homer. Hopefully these people won't mind me posting their pictures:

Great work and thanks for the insights! Would love to see some of what's going on in Photoshop =)
You could try http://camstudio.org/, if Fraps isn't suiting your needs. Bye and thanks =)

Did you read my e-mail on suggestions for cartoon characters?

The Next One : Cartman ! cartman ! Cartman ! ;)

If you have the money to spare, you can't beat camtasia.
Fraps as suggested WONT work as it is for recording D3D/OGL surfaces not windows.
Camstudio on the other hand is considered by many as the free camtasia.

For screen capture, if you are on a Mac you could use Snapz Pro from Ambrosia. Free to try, can't remember how much it costs.

It's not free, but SnagIt is the little brother of Camtasia, and does a great job of screen capturing. Only $20 or so.

Loving these!

Suggestions: Rat Fink, a nekomimi, and for something really wiggy: Taronga Leela.

Hey, I think (based on the extreme number of visits you're getting) you don't need to hear that your work is really amazing. But, anyway I'll say it, because it's true. Do you already know what will be your next target? Maybe Fred Flintstone? Anyway, I would love to see the whole process. Maybe if you put some paypal button you can gather the money to get camtasia or whatever it's needed.

I recommend camstudio...its free and it works!

You can always use snagit6+ to record what your doing... it works well and records into any codec you have one your computer. and the play back is very nice.

omg!!!

that's so amazing... and incredible

i hope you do more and morethings cause i'll add your blog to my favorites pages

congratulations!!!

i think its really amazing, but i wonder if the hair might not be made more noticable on the homer, it seems that the lines made in the drawing are more bold, so perhaps add more so you get the same heft to the hair, instead of the literal same amount of hair

Adobe Captivate is good too, though not free.

Cant wait to see Fred Flintstone, George Jetson, and others

Excelent post !

But Homer in real life is horrible, I prefer him in draw !

Once again man...this is amazing! I can't believe you used so many pictures and blended them into creating one solid look. Keep up the good work and I hope to see many more of your artworks in the future.

urgh. People are >anonymously< advertising through comments on your blog. Dude, you should delete those or something wtf.

Hey I got an idea as promised. Do Hello Kitty. That thing has universal recognition and I think it would be really challenging too. Either that or do any Japanese Manga/Anime character. They're supposed to look 'cute' with classic puppy-dog eyes but imagine if you saw a person like that in real. Imagine seeing a little Manga kid in real. Creeeeppyyyy!!! hahah.

I agree with what someone else said tho. I'm sure whatever you do it'll be fantastic. Keep it up bro!

Oh and thanks for the animated gif. Maybe you could do a little toot..? Just suggesting again :#

Man!!!
You GOTTA do Peter Griffin from Family Guy!!!
He may be a bit harder because of the glasses, but I'm sure you can do it.

Excellent!!
I hope more Simpsons characters will be posted with the same effect!!

Really great job!

This blog looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.

Very original, great job!

For video capture, fraps is definitively one of the best. I don't know if it's free or not. But I use it when I want to record games session, or when I do something on photoshop.
However you will have to re-encode the video if you want it to be at a decent size.

Wink is a very good free screen capture tool. The result can be saved directly in Macromedia Flash.

Wink is a decent screen capture tool

Very cool stuff! I get kind of grossed out when I look at Homer especially but I love it. I could see this as a horror film, plastic surgeon/video game addict turns into a serial killer or something.

Btw I use Cam Studio for screen captures myself too. Worth trying out.

yeeeah dude
nice work on the real homer
keep it comming jejeje

This is amazing work - and I second the suggestion that you add a PayPal button. You might be happily surprised what turns up as far as voluntary donations because your work definitely deserves all the support it can get.

I'd love to see Popeye, but the possibility of a Jessica Rabbit is too tempting to turn down.

This is totally awesome. Could you post your PS file somewhere so us artists could could get an idea how you did this. I'm sure this will soon be a contest on Worth1000. Great way to pioneer a totally new style. Keep up the good work.
